The Windeward Bound Trust seeks a full time Program Development Director. The PDD will have five main areas of responsibility:

  • Administration (15%): Manage ship's office; Oversee the maintenance of agendas, rosters, contracts, and other paperwork associated with daysails, sailing programs, and charters
  • Marketing & Communications (15%): Maximise program exposure to potential passengers, trainees, crew, and chartering organisations making use of website, mailing lists, newsletters, merchandise, local business partners, social media, and other resources
  • Crew Recruitment (20%): Design & implement plan for improved crew recruitment & retention, making use of social media to promote the ship as a leading opportunity for training & licensing of mariners, with a goal of an increased pool of applicants, and more organised, regular crew turnover
  • Financial Development (25%): Work with CEO in creating strategic long-term financial plan for the organisation; manage other aspects of organisation in order to maximise revenue for the support of programming; research & pursue grant sources; plan and coordinate ship's purchasing to minimise expenditures
  • Program Development (25%): Work with CEO to direct the ongoing evolution of the sail training program, beginning with the creation of standards-based curriculum options for sail training voyages, and increasing the number of annually repeating voyages

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, related to education, marine science, or non-profit administration preferred
  • At least two years experience in sail training industry
  • At least two years experience in non-profit administration or similar
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Proficient with full Microsoft Suite
  • Ability to work independently in a self-directed manner
  • Flexibility, creativity, and a passion for sail training

Preferred:

  • At least some experience in the following areas:
    • Grant writing
    • Teaching (traditional/non-traditional settings okay)
    • Marketing
    • Budget management
    • Employee supervision
    • Website management
